"Having The Dixie [Bootleggers] play in our wedding was truly one of the best decisions we made... Our guests loved the music of The Dixie [Bootleggers] so much they stood up to dance, and several of them commented how excited they were with the show. We were able to transport ourselves to the 1920s and enjoy something truly unforgettable."  (translated from Spanish)

For Celebration & Good Times!

The Dixie Bootleggers is a band for celebration and good times, and radiates pure infectious joy! It's a medium-sized band of 7 musicians (Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Banjo, Tuba, Piano, Drums), patterned after Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven. It has a big, lively sound perfect for incidental music in a lively event, or taking center stage and putting on a show--even telling stories about the songs and the artists who performed them.

You can count on all your favorite Dixieland standards by Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Al Jolson, "Jelly Roll" Morton, Spencer Williams, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, and many others. And yes... we know When the Saints! (And Cantina Band from Star Wars. And a whole lot more!)

Several Themes Can Be Accommodated...

The Dixie Bootleggers is unambiguously a New Orleans style Dixieland band, with a focused Dixieland repertoire, which makes it perfect for a variety of themes...
  • 1920's Prohibition / Jazz Age / Speakeasy
  • Mardi Gras / New Orleans
  • Louis Armstrong Repertoire
  • Positive, Inspirational, and Uplifting Songs
NOTE: If you're looking for something even more high-energy and versatile to get the party started and get everyone dancing, then we suggest The Speakeasy Jazz Orchestra, which also has a strong 1920s vibe, but is a larger ensemble with more varied repertoire, including a selection of modern pop songs re-imagined in a 1920s style, and sung by a female vocalist dressed as a flapper girl.

We're Jazz Musicians, But We Don't Just "Wing-It."

Hi, I'm Aaron Stanley, the creator, bandleader, trumpeter, and arranger for the Dixie Bootleggers. I've freelanced in just about every style you can imagine, but I've never had so much fun as when I play Dixieland!

Many bands of this type are, quite frankly, a bit disorganized. Maybe it's the jazz musician inside wanting to "wing it." But In my experience--even as a jazz musician accustomed to improvising--if you completely "wing it," you usually get "wing-it" results.

That's why I work hard to select the best repertoire, create interesting and unique arrangements, and hire amazing performers who love the music. Here's what else you can expect...

  • No awkward silences: we come prepared with a well-balanced set list (list of songs to play, in order) to avoid the inevitable 3-minute discussions between each song about what song we'll play next and how to play it.

  • More of your favorite songs per set: In addition to being more organized with our set lists, we do shorter, more compact arrangements so you can hear more of your favorite songs per set.

  • Professional Quality Sound. In addition to our talented musicians--each of whom are artists in their own right--I've learned from experience that bringing my own professional audio engineer and equipment is critical to ensuring the band always sounds great, is properly balanced, EQ'd properly, and that the sound levels are appropriate for the event. (This is something many other bands of this type don't put enough focus on.)

  • Professional vibes. We take seriously the importance of showing up on time, being dressed appropriately for the event, being ready to entertain, and also refraining from alcohol while we're working.
All the above helps insure the best possible experience for everyone involved, from the event planner to the guests. Let The Dixie Bootleggers put your mind at ease and create an unforgettable vintage experience.

1Songs that were part of Louis Armstrong's famous and groundbreaking Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings from 1926-29.
2Songs recorded by Louis Armstrong at some point in his career.
3The songs that kicked off the Jazz Age! The Original Dixieland Jass Band recorded two songs (one on each side of the record) that become an instant sensation, and, quite possibly (there is some debate on this), became the first ever record to go platinum.
